When Uri Geller managed to fool most of the media, James Randi analyzed his moves. The magician claimed that scientists are really easy to fool, because they don't think like magicians. I'd like to see a magician live with the yogi and see what he comes up with. There is a good book called "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" about a guy who apprenticed himself to a magician from India, and they would go to the "fakirs" and analyze their moves. Really enlightening book, both about magic and about the culture in India.
There is evidence though that the human body can go into "hibernation mode" and some people have learned to do that. And fasting ... well, people CAN live on a lot less food than we have come to believe (as fast-5ers find out).

Well, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, so I say the burden of evidence is on him. Besides, there is a rich tradition of mystics the world over pulling all kinds of tricks on people. I think this could be harmful because if someone tries it in earnest, they will die like all the others who have tried to do it "for real."
