Hi Karen-
We used to have a lady who came into work all the time with freshly made brownies and cookies. She was in sales so she used the food to make people look forward to her coming in to sell them products. She would always try to give me one and, being the health nut that I am, I would decline. It left us both not feeling special: Me, because she hadn't thought of something special just for me and she, because she thought EVERYBODY loves cookies and if you didn't want her cookies, you didn't like her.
If your training partner knows better and doesn't really want the cookies, he'll know that the "cookie lady" went out of her way to make him a bag of fresh roasted peanuts or some special jerky that can't be found in stores. But I have a feeling he values your friendship with or without the cookies. There aren't many ladies who are into power lifting or getting up at 5:00am to exercise.
