It's funny, but in our family "cookies" are just "normal emergency
food". That is, we always have a cookie jar full of GFCF cookies,
and in an emergency (or if there is something like a potluck) we
grab some. When we bring them someplace, people really enjoy
them and want the recipe. But I wouldn't give them to someone
as a gift, because to "cookies" are like the bottom-rung food.
So I guess one's idea of "special food" really is a
mental issue.
I think for a workout partner I'd be tempted to make a dish of
fresh fruit salad: cut up fruit tossed with some lemon juice, some
toasted nuts, a bit of coconut, and chopped Marischino cherries.
A few chopped cherries make it seem really decadent, but really,
there aren't many calories in a few of them (the red food coloring
might be a problem for some people). Dried cherries or cranberries
works too.
It turns out my family LOVES fruit, but no one wants to cut it up.
So I've been making a point to have "cut up fruit" in the fridge. It
disappears quickly (faster than the cookies by a long shot). What
they REALLY want after a workout is some simple easy-to-digest
food that doesn't require thinking.
