That makes sense. It's inhibited by other things too. But I wonder
if the low HCL is a ** cause ** of the lack of stomach emptying.
Supposedly the stomach senses when things are "digested
enough" ... and then allows the food out. It does this bit by
bit: the liquified stuff is allowed out while the solid stuff stays.
Actually I was watching it via a barium xray, and it was
kinda cool.
But if your stomach is so weakened that it doesn't de-solidify
stuff, of course it would just stay in your stomach.
I think this effect is one reason that eating soups works
for people to lose weight. Broth hits your stomach, then
gets out into your upper intestine pretty quickly (it's already
liquid) and tells the cells there "this is good food that has
plenty of protein", and the appetite decreases quickly.
Carbs that leak out (like when you drink smoothies) don't
seem to have this effect so much, at least not in my
experience.
