For me personally that worked.  BUT...we are all different.   One woman posted a while back that after hearing all the advice about low carbs, she kept lowering her carbs and feeling worse. Finally after about a year of that she added carbs and felt better. 
So my advice is to try it and see how it works for you .  Keeping a journal helps build awareness.

Oh and with regard to your initial question, another tactic might be to just ease into Fast -5 as is suggested in the book. Move your first meal back a half an hour.  Stay with that till you are comfortable.  Then another half an hour...Or hourly increments.  Whatever works for you.  Best not to be rigid.
