Re: [fast5] How quickly should person lose weight?

As long as you feel good, I wouldn't worry about it. Your body is mostly
made of water, so most of your "weight" is H20. Fat really, really
doesn't weigh very much at all. I got a few boxes of beef fat from
a butcher once, to make tallow, and I couldn't believe how *light*
it is. It's like styrofoam. It's basically your body's way of hauling
around extra food, so it's designed to be light and insulating
and full of calories (like styrofoam!).

So when you lose "8 lbs" that would be, I'm guessing,
about 7 big glasses of water and a pound of fat. People tend to shed
a lot of water weight fast on any diet, but maybe esp. this one,
because it seems to get rid of bloating and the glycogen stores
go way down (glycogen stores are where a lot of water is).
I also wonder if blood sugar has something to do with it: when
your blood glucose is high it is damaging to the body, and
your body will want to "water it down" by adding more liquid,
which leads to more water storage and higher blood pressure?

Anyway, the scale is a really inaccurate tool to judge body
composition or health. If you start getting ill from eating too
little, you'll know it (and likely you'll feel really really hungry!).
Your body isn't going to just jump in and start "eating muscle"
no matter what some websites say ... it will eat fat and
worn-out cells and do some cleanup, but if you eat a decent
amount in your eating window there is plenty of protein.

The one thing I am careful of though is to get enough calcium
and magnesium. Your body *does* rob
cal/mag stores when it needs to, so you have to make sure
there is enough in what you eat. I don't do dairy, so I take
supplements for that (most omnivores eat stuff like eggshells
or bones, but I'm not that ambitious).

I've lost about 8 pounds since I started. Should I not question it? I'm just concerned about losing muscle. I actually feel a lot less flabby and much leaner.
