[fast5] Re: Newbie has brilliant news!

Hi Helena-

At the risk of putting the list to sleep, I'll post my history. ;)

Three years ago when I hit 40, I realized that I was 5'10" and weighed 221 lbs. I was 170lbs in high school. I had always worked out but the weight was creeping up and there was no sign of reversal in sight. Something had to be done. So I found an old book by Vince Gironda and set myself to lifting weights twice a week and riding my bike 150-200 miles a week for six months. Diet included mostly green smoothies and hard boiled eggs. Eggs or whey protein were eaten on a schedule of every three hours like clock work. Seriously, I would eat 2-3 dozen eggs a day! I lost 42 lbs in those six months weighing in at a cool, lean 179. But six months later my weight had crept back up to 205.

I was on the Dave Draper bodybuiling website one day and they had a post that mentioned Intermittent Fasting and Fast-5. I downloaded the Fast-5 PDF, read it, and it clicked in my mind and I've been on it ever since. My weight has crept back down to around 180, I look younger, I feel younger, I have LOTS more energy. My cholesterol, triglycrerides, C-reactive protein have all come down. My blood pressure is low like it was in my 20's.

I stay on fast-5 because it helps me to maintain a healthy weight and overall good health. Even the few grey hairs I was starting to get have gone away! I rarely get sick anymore, and with two small children, that's really saying something.

But what's most enjoyable is that if I want ice cream every now and then, I can do it. If I have a craving for a bag of crisps and a couple of pints, then I can call that dinner as long as I eat well the next night. Mostly I eat healthy but fast-5 gives me wiggle room now that I'm at my goal weight. I may crack down at some point and try to get down to 170-175. Weird things like that tend to happen in my life during the week I'm off work between Christmas and New Year's. ;)

Oh yeah, I wanted to give you a visual. You said you lost eleven pounds? A gallon of milk weighs 8 lbs and a half gallon of milk weighs four. Next time you buy milk at the grocery store, think about how heavy that gallon is and the fact that you've lost that and a half! That's significant! Benjamin Franklin said, "A penny saved is a penny earned". In this case a gallon lost is a gallon earned!
