[fast5] Re: New member, curious, welcomes feedback

Thanks, Rick, for all your hard work and time and typing on this matter. I'm sorry the site crashed, giving you extra work.

You say: "So in order to get down to a really healthy weight, you need to lose 224lbs."

I personally don't agree with those height/weight charts. They are merely a man-made invention of how much a person should weigh (i.e. it isn't handed down from our Maker). I would never want to weigh as little as 130. I recall that at 200lbs I was extremely muscular, fit and healthy, played tennis and badminton and worked in a very active job (train conductor!) Also, it is womanly to carry extra fat and these charts are I suspect made by men for men, or by men based on how skinny they like their women lol. I don't buy into the mentality that women have to be so skinny as to almost disappear. And I don't think there is a shred of evidence to prove that 130 pounds is "healthier" than being, say, 150 or 170.

But I digress, because what we are talking about is body fat percentage.

"I would conservatively figure you to be somewhere around 65% bodyfat."

Yikes -- more than half of me is just blubber!

"really apply to people with almost no muscle mass ( most folks!)"
I have good muscles under all this fat.

"your LBM 123.9 lbs

So I have to eat the calories for someone 123.9 lbs?

I have used an online calculator and the daily calorie requirement for a 124-pound woman is 1,246.

Question: What if I eat that number of calories and I am still hungry?

I've been reading Taubes, Atkins, Groves etc, with regard to (a) the lack of necessity to count calories on a high fat, low carb diet, because in the absence of insulin, the body cannot store any excess calories we take in...and

(b) the dangers of starving yourself by going hungry (i.e. body goes into conservation mode and refuses to give up its fat stores).

I believe that if I only ate 1,246 calories a day I would be unable to fast for 3 hours let alone 19.

I'd be interested to hear your views.

Helena
