Re: [fast5] (Pamela - work outs) New member, curious, welcomes feedback

Hi Karen!!
Also, in that post, I mentioned that "Lisa" (from LCHF group) was talking about it in reference to the, Body Science, book and that I haven't read it yet.  So, I'm not that informed on this.  But that I have a friend who has been doing this for 4 years now and has had fantastic results.  I thought it was ridiculous at first, but he's proof it works. In Lisa's post she mentioned that she only works out once a week.

I also mentioned that what you're doing is building up muscle tissue.  When you have more muscle mass you are burning fat.  What happens when you work out once a week is you workout really hard on that day and get real sore.  You are tearing down your muscles and it takes the week for them to repair.  Once the muscles have the time to repair properly they are stronger for it.  And if you're working out daily or even 3 times a week you've not given your muscles time to recover but  are just continuing to tear them down. But I'm just beginning to understand this myself.

Below is some info that I've found.  The first short video here is related to what we're talking about.  The second one is on diet only, but I figured you may want to see Part 1.  The rest of the info and links are in relation to this info….Namaste!  Pamela

Is once a week really enough to work out? Graves JE, et.al. Effect of reduced training frequency on muscular strength. International Journal of Sports Medicine 9(5):316-319, 1988. AIso - DeRenne,C. et. al. Effects of training frequency on strength maintenance in pubescent baseball players. Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research 10(1):8-14, 1996.

  • Subjects trained for 10-18 weeks at a higher frequency and then decreased frequency for 12 weeks. Subjects who trained 3X/week decreased to 2X/week and subjects who trained 2x/week decreased to IX/week Reduction in training frequency produced improved rates of strength gain.

So Pamela, this style of working out does not sound like Slow Burn.

Do you have any recommended web sites that tells about it?

work out long and hard one day a week.  The theory goes that when you work out long and hard you're breaking down you muscles and you need that week for your body to rebuild. I have a friend who does that and he has had phenomenal results doing it this way.
